Cigarette smoking is very much prevalent all over the world. Smoker not only spoils himself but also pollutes the environment. Now what is the content which makes a cigarette? The main ingredient is Nicotine (C10H14N2), which is a naturally occurring liquid alkaloid. A cigarette contains 8 to 20 mg of nicotine depending on the brand. 1 mg of nicotine is absorbed when a person smokes one cigarette.

How nicotine affects the human body?

Step 1: A person smokes cigarette

Step 2: Nicotine moves to the small blood vessels that line the skin, lungs and mucous membrane

Step 3: Then it travels via the blood stream and reaches brain

Step 4: It is delivered to the rest of the body

How does the brain reacts with nicotine?

When nicotine is inhaled it first travels to the lungs. The alveoli in the lungs provide ample access for nicotine and travels via the blood to reach brain. Once it reaches the brain it creates a good feeling which is experienced by smokers. It also causes irritability when the person quits. Thus the person becomes an addict to cigarette.
